Work With Me

Career Counselling for New Grads

What can I do with my degree/diploma in __________?

This is the most frequently asked question that I hear when I work with new college and university graduates.

It is difficult to know what types of jobs to apply for if you’ve graduated from a non-destination degree, like English or Biology. You might be wondering what types of jobs you’re qualified for. I can help. Through career planning, you can discover (a) what options within your area of study exist; and (b) if any of these are right for you, and if not, what types of occupations are the best match for your interests and skills.

If you’re wondering: Will this career path make me happy? Can I move onto something else? What kind of “first job” will help me get where I want to go? Should I consider more schooling? I can help you answer all of these questions, too.

The new grads that I work with are often already feeling deflated by the time they come to see me. But I assure them (and you!) that there are many opportunities for new graduates – from jobs to self-employment to internships to international volunteer roles. It pays to take time to explore your options at this crucial stage, and doing so will give you a great start to a rewarding career you’ll enjoy.

Let’s find clarity together.

My process is about more than checking a few boxes — it goes much deeper. This is about seeing you — and guiding you to career clarity. Over 20+ years, I’ve crafted a process that works — really works — to give my clients and their families relief, direction, confidence and excitement about the future.

This is how the Career Clarity process works:

Over the course of approximately 2 months, we will have 6 (hour-long) sessions:

Session 1:

Getting to know you the real you. The first step is about understanding who you are, and what drives you, in great depth. I want to find out what you were drawn to as a child, and what made you light up. Right from your first memory, what have you enjoyed? What was your school experience like? Understanding what draws your attention and makes you excited is the first piece of the puzzle. From this foundation, we embark on a discovery journey.

After each meeting, I synthesize and organize the insights in your own custom career guide that you’ll receive at the end of our work together. Your completed career guide will continue to serve as a useful reference for research and decision-making throughout your career.

At the end of each meeting, I will also assign a small amount of homework including exercises relating to your specific career needs and goals.

Over the next 5 sessions:

Pattern schemes

We gain clarity.

Through discussion, structured activities, career assessments (including the popular Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), and occupational exploration, we uncover themes and patterns — and begin to hone in on what’s right for you.

If finding meaningful work is next on your plan, we’ll explore and pinpoint career options.

I’ll help you research these options fully, including gaining insight into the future of occupational options (through information interviews or job shadowing opportunities, if this is of interest to you).
